Genesis 2:18-25 – God Creates Woman and Marriage

Genesis 2:18-25 – God Creates Woman and Marriage

  1. Vs. 18: Fixing What is Not Good:

The Hebrew word for helper is ‛êzer (ay’-zer)

Psalms 33:20:  Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.

David said in Psalms 121:1-2: I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

1Timothy 2:13:  For Adam was formed first, then Eve;

1Corinthians 11:8-9:  For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

Ephesians 5:23-24:  For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

Matthew 20:25-28:  But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  1. Vss. 19-20: No Helper Among the Animals:
  1. Vss. 21-22: The First Woman From Adam’s Side:

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

Not from the head as a sign of superiority

Not from the feet being a sign of inferiority.

She was made from his side to show equality

The word for “made” is bânâh (baw-naw’) means “build.”

This was the last act of creation before resting

Matthew 19:4:  He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female,

Revelation 19:7-9:  Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

  1. Vs. 23: Eves Connection to Adam:

Woman in Hebrew is ‘ishshâh. This is also defined as wife (woman married to a man).

Ephesians 5:28-29: So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it.

1 Peter 3:7 says;  Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
