I. Vss. 20-21; Accusations from Family and Friends
“lay hold” in Greek is Krateō– to be chief, be master of, to rule
Psalms 69:8: I have become a stranger to My brothers, and a foreigner to My mother’s children.
John 7:4-5: For no one does anything in secret, while he himself seeks to be in public. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world. (5) For His brothers did not believe in Him.
Mark 6:3: Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses (Joseph) and Judas (Jude) and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him.
existēmi – Insane; Beside Himself; Schizophrenic
II. Vs. 22; An accusation from the religious leaders
Matthew 12:22-24: Then one who had been demon-possessed was brought to Him, blind and dumb. And He healed him, so much so that the blind and dumb one both spoke and saw. And all the people were amazed and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the
Pharisees heard, they said, This one does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub the ruler of the demons.
2 Kings 1:1-4; And Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper room in Samaria, and was sick. And he sent messengers and said to them, Go, ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease. But the angel of Jehovah said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise! Go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say to them, Is it not because no God is in Israel that you go to ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? And therefore so says Jehovah, You shall not come from that bed on which you have gone up, but shall surely die. And Elijah left.
III. Vss. 23-27: Jesus answers His Critics
Jesus is saying; “I’m not under satan. Instead, I am proving that I am stronger than he is.”
Hebrews 2:14: Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
Two obvious conclusions we can drawn from the “parables”:
(1) Jesus cannot be in collusion with Satan
(2) Jesus is actually destroying Satan’s work, which means he is more powerful than Satan.
IV. Warning About the Unforgivable Sin:
What is the Unpardonable sin; Blaspheme of the Holy Spirit?
Need to understand: the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
John 16:8; And when He (The Holy Spirit) comes, he will convict the world of guilt concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
John 15:26; And when the Comforter has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of Me. So the unpardonable sin is to reject the ministry of the Holy Spirit who convicts us of sin and who guides us to receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
V. Vss. 31-35; Jesus describes His true family relationships.
