I. Vss. 7-12- A Great Crowd Follows Jesus:

Genesis: 25:30; And Esau said to Jacob, I beg you, Let me eat of the red, this red soup, for I am faint. Therefore his name was called Edom.
William L. Lane “The demons addressed Jesus as the divine Son of God in a futile attempt to render him harmless. These cries of recognition were designed to control him and strip him of his power, in accordance with the conception that knowledge of the precise name
or quality of a person confers mastery over him.”
II. Vss. 13-15: Jesus Chooses the Twelve.
Luke 6:12: And it happened in those days that He went out into a mountain to pray, and He was spending the night in prayer to God.
3 purposes in mind for them:
1) Training them by personal example and teaching. (Be with Him)
2) Sending them out to preach the gospel.
3) Giving them authority to heal and cast out demons.
2 Timothy 2:2; And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
Adam Clark “The business of a minister of Christ is,
1st. To preach the Gospel.
2nd. To be the physician of souls.
3rd. To wage war with the devil, and destroy his kingdom.”
III. Vss. 16-19; The Twelve Chosen to be Apostles
Warren Wiersbe says the names of the 12 disciples are arranged in pairs. “Since Jesus sent His Apostles out two by two, this was a logical way to list them.”
1 Corinthians 1:26-29: For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is
weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
Luke 9:52-54: And He sent messengers before His face. And they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans to make ready for Him. And they did not receive Him, because His face was going toward Jerusalem. And seeing, His disciples James and John said, Lord, do You desire that we command fire to come down from Heaven and consume them, even as Elijah did?
