Mark 6:7-13 – Sending the Twelve

Mark 6:7-13 – Sending the Twelve

  • “I will make you fishers of men” (Mark 1:17)
  • Withdrawn on several occasions to give them special attention (3:7, 13; 4:10)

Mark 3:14-15: And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them out to proclaim, and to have authority to heal sicknesses, and to cast out demons.

Deuteronomy 17:6: “….on the testimony of two or three witnesses”

apostellō (ap-os-tel’-lo): set apart, to send out (properly on a mission)

exousia (ex-oo-see’-ah) Means: delegated influence: – Privilege, authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.

dunamis (Acts 1) This means force, power, strength, ability

John 20:21: “…..as the Father has sent Me, I also send you”

Matthew 10:8-10:  Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. You have received freely, freely give. Do not provide gold nor silver, nor copper in your purses, nor a bag for the journey, nor two coats, nor sandals, nor staves. For the workman is worthy of his food.

2 Timothy 3:1-5; But know this, that in the last days grievous times will be upon us. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control,
brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
James 5:14-15; Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Anointing with oil in Scripture:

  • Consecration (Exodus 30:22-30; 1 Samuel 10:1)
  • Blessing (Psalm 23:5; Hebrews 1:9)
  • Setting apart for Gods service (1 Kings 19:15-16)
  • Worship (Matthew 26:6-13) * Anointing of Jesus’ feet
  • Healing ( Mark 6:15)

2 Corinthians 3:5-6; Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
