Mark 9:1-8 Jesus in all His Glory

Mark 9:1-8 Jesus in all His Glory

Vss. 1-3: Jesus is Transfigured Before His Disciples.

“Kingdom” is basileia—Meaning “royal power, kingship, dominion, rule.”  “Royal Splendor”

Luke 9:29: And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.

“transformed” is metamorphoō (met-am-or-fo’-o) to change into another form, to transform.

Spurgeon: “For Christ to be glorious was almost a less matter than for him to restrain or hide his glory. It is forever his glory that he concealed his glory; and that, though he was rich, for our sakes he became poor.”

  1. Vs. 4: Elijah and Moses appear with Jesus.

Jude 1:9: But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.”

2 Kings 2:11:  And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Luke 9:31:  spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

  1. Vss.5-8: Peter Wants to Build Tabernacles; The Father Wants Them to Listen to His Son:

Spurgeon said “Peter was openhearted, bold, enthusiastic. To my mind, there is something very lovable about Peter; and, in my opinion, we need more Peters in the church of the present day. Though they are rash and impulsive, yet there is fire in them, and there is steam in them, so that they keep us going.”

Exodus 13:21-22,  Exodus 16:10,  Exodus 19:9

Exodus 33:9-10,  Leviticus 16:2,  1 Kings 8:10-11

Ezekiel 10:4,  Luke 1:35,  Acts 1:9,  Luke 21:27

Matthew 17:6-8: When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

Spurgeon : “It is a better thing for a man to live near to Christ, and to enjoy his presence, than it would be for him to be overshadowed with a bright cloud, and to hear the divine Father himself speaking out of it.”

2 Peter 1:17-21: For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
